The covering of the enamel film on the conductor may or may not be continuous. Certain number of discontinuities or pinholes in this enamel film are allowed as per the relevant standard as a completely defect free processing is always not possible. This instrument is designed to detect and count these discontinuities. When the number of these discontinuities or pinholes exceeds those specified in the standard, the wire is said to be not complying with the requirements of the standard and hence rejected as far as this particular test is concerned. When it is less, the wire is said to pass this test successfully.
